The gaming industry has come a long way since the first video game was developed in 1958. In fact, it’s one of the highest-earning industries, and we can hardly imagine those trends changing any time soon.
According to recent data, FIFA 22 and New World were the most searched video games across the globe in 2021 by the average monthly search volume. Both titles averaged 2.7 million monthly searches.
The FIFA video game series began in 1993, released by EA Sports. FIFA 22, the latest version, was launched in October 2021 and managed to top the list, which was quite expected considering how iconic this franchise is.
Nonetheless, things may change soon. EA Sports published a letter that says:
“As we look ahead, we’re also exploring the idea of renaming our global EA SPORTS football games. This means we’re reviewing our naming rights agreement with FIFA, which is separate from all our other official partnerships and licenses across the football world.”
That means FIFA 22 might just be the last version of the annually released game.
On the other hand, New World is a new game, launched by Amazon Games in September 2021. It quickly became incredibly well-liked but also faced development issues. Given the immense popularity, we expect the developer to make improvements, as promised.
The full list looks like this:
- FIFA 22: 2.7 million
- New World: 2.7 million
- Resident Evil Village 2.0 million
- Far Cry 6: 1.9 million
- Pokémon Unite: 1.5 million
- Battlefield 2042: 1.3 million
- It Takes Two: 1.0 million
- Outriders: 1.0 million
- Back 4 Blood: 990,200
- PUBG New State: 982,900
The numbers may seem impossibly high, but there are an estimated 3.24 billion gamers worldwide, so it’s clear why data concerning this industry pretty much always involve sky-high figures.
